Universal Music Group is home to and the umbrella term for the most iconic and influential labels & brands in music.They are home to some of the biggest artist. And they identify and develop recording song artist. As well distribute and promote the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful music to delight and entertain fans around the world.
Def Jam is an American record label based in New York City. They focus mainly on hip hop and urban music are are one of the main records own by universal music group. The label is multinational and thus operates in many other countries such as Def Jam UK or Def Jam Japan. The label signs many different artists such as; Justin Bieber, Big Sean, Afrojack, Ludacris, Kanye West, Izzy Azalea etc. Although Def Jam has many artist, most of their artist are signed to other record labels both under universal music group and other recording companies. Many of these artist have their own record labels of which they sign new talent and upcoming artists. Such as GOOD music which was founded by Kanye West.
Republic Records is another American owned record label owned by universal music group. he label was founded by Monte Lipman and Avery Lipman in 1995. And since then has become part of Montown records in 1999. However, both record labels split in 2006, which then lead to Universal Republic Records being born. It's main offices in located in New York City, and has then produced many other record labels. Republic records was 2012's top charting US label. With it's best selling artist being Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Lorde, Lil Wayne etc. Which many of their artists now are Grammay nominated or are Grammy winning artist.

Although UMG is an american record label; Decca Record began as a British record label established in 1929 by Edward Lewis. Further to this, the US version of this record label was established in 1934 by Lewis. in 1937 as a result of the anticipation of the aggression of WW2. Lewis sold British Decca and the link between the US and UK Decca record label was broken and they both went solo. The British label grew in the record label industry. While the American label developed into the musical genre. Both are now part of the UMG as part of a media conglomerate. Thus Decca label was the foundation company that evolved and joined UMG.
Island record is another record label owned by UMG, it was founded by Chris Blackwell et al and has been based in the UK since 1962. Island record was sold to PolyGram in 1989 to allow horizontal integration. PolyGram at the time was the largest independent record label in history. With Island records aiding to their growth, which has lead to the growth of the UK music scene. Island record has been working under UMG as a standalone label since 2014. Island record has grown as a record label and there are now three island label brands to exist. Island UK, Island US and Island Australia. Island remains one of UMG's most predominant and fastest growing labels due to it significant legacy. Some of it's artists include; Madison Beer, Mariah Carey, Amy Winehouse, The Killers, Queen. Many people believe that Island records is one of the most iconic and dominant record labels and Melissa Etheridge stated: "If you want to look at world music, music of the last fifty years that changed the world, you need look no further than Island Records".

Warner Bro's music group is another major record label founded in 1959. Warner Bros. Records is one of the most successful recording companies in music history and home to some of the most influential and innovative artists of our time. It has had an outstanding and impacting influence on pop culture. BY discovering and raising new talent to take over not only the charts but also the public's perception of music. Warner Bro's currently home to an impressive generation of major artists. Artists include Ed Sheeran,Red Hot Chilli peppers, Prince, Jason Deurolo etc.Warner Music Group Corp is an American global record label headquartered in New York City based in the same location as rival labels. It is the only American-owned music conglomerate wordwide . THe comapny was publiced traded to change ownership of the country in May 2011.

IT has many genre defining hits of the last 20 years of dance music.

It was founded in 2010 by Olly Wood et al. And its brand name was produced from the name of condiments. It was initially an outlet for musicians to produce artists of many different genres instead of just genre specific.

The company was first founded in 1929 by an American Record company and renamed Columbia Recording Corporation in 1938, following its merger with Columbia Broadcasting System. In 1966, the company was was then sold to CBS become CBS Records. Sony Corporation bought the company in 1987 and renamed it Sony Music Entertainment in 1991.
